Just for the sake of curiosity after today's AOTD, as some of the answers are actually featured here

Race Laps/Race Time: You can adjust these for longer or shorter races. The "real" amount of laps varies from track to track, though I'm no longer sure what they mean by real anymore. 50 Laps around Laguna Seca definitely doesn't like a 5 minutes race though. On the other hand, 120 minutes is as high as the race timer will go.

Damage Sensitivity: At 100%, don't expect to get back into the track after hitting that tire wall head on. Because your own tires will leave you to be just another brick in the wall.

Mechanical Failures: These enable the chance that something will break along the race from mechanical wear, effectively putting an end on your run. So far, all I've had was a fuel pump give up on me while running a Formula 3000 around Laguna Seca.

Tire Wear and Fuel Use: These can be raised or decreased to pretty absurd levels. Pirelli would be proud of the 8x wear setting, which makes tires last only a couple laps.

Flag Rules: You better behave properly if you wanti to put this one on full, otherwise you'll be yielding positions and getting Stop'n Gos pretty much every lap.

Aside from this pre race/season menu, you also get some neat realism options under the visuals menu:

G-Force Simulation: At 100%, this can make driving the fast cars somewhat unsettling, as your field of vision will be thrown off during corners, ups and downs and you'll often find yourself looking for the reference point you had just picked a second ago.

Look to apex: Pretty self explanatory, helps you find that reference point you just lost after a massive uphill pushed you down on your seat and all you could see for a second was the top of the steering wheel.

Cockpit Camera Movement: Simulates those bumps and uneven patches. At 100% , expect some nice shaking in first person view. This also allows you to look around the cockpit, if you have buttons setup for that.

And there's also the real seat positions. Depending on how well you know a track, it's really neat being able to adjust the seat before taking off in order to focus on the more critical parts of each corner.

"On the other hand, 120 minutes is as high as the race timer will go."

Is it an F1 sim? If so, that's realistic: there's a two hour limit on grands prix.

The game's titular series is WTCC, so 120 min is more than enough, but one of the expansions brings endurance cars and the Nürburgring in endurance layout, so I thought a 24 hours option would have been a given.
